TUMBES, THE BEACHES OF THE NORTH

GENERAL INFORMATION

LOCATION
In the North Coast of Peru. Limits at the Northwest with the Pacific Ocean, at the South with the Department of Piura and at the east with the Republic of Ecuador. 

EXTENSION
The Department of Tumbes has an extension of 4,731 square kms.

POPULATION
It has a population of 168,800 inhabitants. 

CAPITAL OF THE DEPARTMENT
Tumbes is located at an altitude of 5 mts. above sea level. The Department has 3 provinces and 12 districts. 

CLIMATE
Tropical and sunny during all year, being the average temperature of 24°C, the maximum temperature gets to 36°C during the months of February and March and the minimum in July and August being of 19°C.

ACCESS / APPROACH
Border with Ecuador:
The border of Ecuador is 26 kms. from the city of Tumbes. The border control is in the district of Aguas Verdes, where it's located Customs and the Migration Office.
By Air:
Daily flights from Lima, it takes aprox. 1:30 hours. The Airport is at 8 kms. from the city.
By Land:
The distance from Lima is of 1,311 kms. by the North Pan-American Highway, which is totally paved. The trip on bus takes aprox. 22 hours. Daily departures.
By Sea:
Ports: There is several fishing ports that have been adapted to receive deep-sea fishing boats, such as Cancas, Zorritos, Caleta La Cruz and Puerto Pizarro.
